We all have to take the last journey at some point. How and when we do so can be partly influenced. Supportive services like palliative medicine, pastoral care, and art therapies are now commonplace – and euthanasia organizations are becoming increasingly visible. Active assistance in dying sparks significant debates in our society, especially in a liberal-leaning Switzerland, where unselfish aid in dying has been legally protected since 1942. Does active euthanasia, as organized today, contribute to a self-determined, dignified end of life? Should adjustments be made to the organizational structures and legislation? Or perhaps active euthanasia is not the right way to approach death in general?
