"Gulliver's Travels" is a world-famous satirical novel by the Dublin-born writer, Anglican priest, and politician Jonathan Swift (1667 – 1745), published in 1726. Never has Swift's Gulliver been more relevant! Fantasy saga, political satire, a lively reckoning with human malice and stupidity. Swift manages the unique feat of entertaining with a "novel of human hostility" (J. G. Herder). His raucous mockery is directed at our entire curious species, including its self-overestimation. This becomes particularly tangible sensually in the fourth part of the classic translated by Christa Schuenke, where Lemuel Gulliver finds himself on the island of the Houyhnhnms, inhabited by horses, who keep humans, called Yahoos, as pets and work animals, and where he becomes acutely aware of his humanity. We have succeeded in engaging Martina Gedeck for this reading, one of the most prominent German film actresses of her generation, awarded the German Audiobook Prize as a narrator. Accompanying this, chamber music from Swift's contemporaries, the German composer Georg Philipp Telemann (1681 – 1767), who composed a suite called "Gulliver's Travels" less than two years after the novel's publication, will be performed. These and other works by the long-underestimated Baroque musician are played by members of the "Galatea Quartet" along with Peter Solomon, who has previously staged Pergolesi's "Stabat Mater" at the Rigiblick stage.
