One mission. Two paratroopers. And a decision that impacted the history of an entire country. Operation Anthropoid is one of the most famous stories of the Czechoslovak resistance. We know the names of Jozef Gabčík and Jan Kubiš. We know the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich. We know the crypt of the church on Resslova Street. Behind the iconic images, however, lies a much more complex story full of preparations, improvisation, courage, chance, and decisions from which there was no turning back. Why did the Czechoslovak exile decide to attack Heydrich? How was such an operation even prepared? Why were Gabčík and Kubiš chosen, and what awaited them after parachuting into their occupied homeland? With history teacher and creator of the podcast Dějepis², David Fronk, we will explore Anthropoid from its inception to the dramatic events following the attack on May 27, 1942. We will look at the planning of the operation, the training of the paratroopers, and their journey to the protectorate. We will examine the network of people from the domestic resistance, without whom the entire mission would have had no chance. We will analyze what happened in the crucial minutes of the attack on Heydrich's car and why everything did not go according to plan. And the story does not end there. There will be consequences. Pursuit. Betrayal. Terror directed against the civilian population. The last fight of the paratroopers and the question that returns even after more than eighty years: what price can resistance against occupation have?
