The Brazilian duo Deafkids? Hard to put into words! Electronic sounds clash with an uncompromising Latin American punk spirit. Deafkids have their roots in the Brazilian underground, where musical and aesthetic conventions are consistently questioned. Founded in 2010 in the state of Rio de Janeiro, the duo has been publishing since 2017 with the American label Neurot Recordings. The multi-instrumentalists Douglas Leal (vocals, guitar, electronics, sampler, percussion, artwork, among others) and Marian Sarine (drums, percussion, electronics, bass) combine the raw spirit of noise and punk with complex rhythms from around the world as well as electronic experiments. This is clearly audible in the title "CICATRIZES," the debut release of the new album Cicatrizes Do Futuro (translated as Scars of the Future, May 2026). The foundation is built on powerful, pulsating 808 bass drums, percussion in Guaguancó rhythm, a classy D-Beat, and overlaid with an relentless acid house bassline, distorted guitar walls, and altered screams. The band writes about the song: "The lyrics of CICATRIZES are like the eyewitness account of a world in collapse." Music as a valve to release the feverish steam of today's times: Deafkids are THE address for this.
