The Literature House Visits the camera. lit. obscura: Elias Hirschl – Loops

Description

An "explosion of unconsumed ideas" (FAZ) – nominated for the German and Austrian Book Prize 2026. With his novels "Salonfähig" (Zsolnay 2021) and "Content" (Zsolnay 2024), the Austrian author Elias Hirschl established himself as a master of literary satire, holding up a mirror to society with both sensitivity and ruthlessness. In "Loops" (Zsolnay 2026), he now focuses on the power of language – and its limits. Franziska grows up in the environment of the Vienna Circle and suffers from a strange illness as a child: she immediately develops any symptom she hears or reads about. Together with the brilliant mathematician Otto, she obsessively researches a perfect universal language that can unambiguously depict reality. Participants and additional information: Elias Hirschl
