Switzerland maintains its own currency, the Swiss Franc, amidst the Eurozone. What is the future of this traditional currency in the long term? The event focuses on the Swiss Franc. The Swiss success currency not only stands for stability but is also undergoing profound change within the framework of digital transformation. Although cash still holds an important position in Switzerland compared to other European countries, projects like the "digital Swiss Franc" show the possible future of the national currency.
The panel discussion does not only consider the Swiss Franc from the perspective of monetary policy and economics but also approaches it from a cultural-historical perspective: What is the relationship between the Swiss population and the Swiss Franc? How can the importance of the Swiss currency be explained from a psychological or societal analytical point of view? Another level is opened up with the question of how to communicate monetary topics to a broad public: The Moneyverse, an initiative of the Swiss National Bank in cooperation with the Bern Historical Museum, opened its doors in April 2026 as a visitor center on the topic of money in Bern. What initial insights are available from the Moneyverse, and what conclusions can be drawn?
