DA CRUZ

Description

Nothing is as it was - familiar things have started to slip: DA CRUZ offers us on their new album «Som Sistema» a music that is at home in the present, without falling into the fashion traps of today. As a result, their new songs are played by the best radio stations in the world and critics are gasping for air between São Paulo and Paris. The band around the Brazilian Mariana Da Cruz, who lives in Bern, is currently planting a new genre into the music world. Mariana Da Cruz explores her African and Brazilian roots with the new album. But she does not do this by recalling musical traditions; she does it through the latest developments in modern black music. The spectrum ranges from South African Gqom to Brazilian Baile Funk to Caribbean Shatta and various forms of new African club music. Traces of Angolan Kuduro, Amapiano, or Trap can be found. From these elements, DA CRUZ has created an independent, contemporary Brazilian music with song character and a distinctive message. Their lyrics address topics such as the long-term effects of colonialism, current social upheavals, land grabbing from indigenous peoples in Brazil, as well as love and redemption in tense times. With «Som Sistema», DA CRUZ offers contemporary black club music that is meant to keep the brain active.
