Since 1526, the Habsburgs have occupied the Czech royal throne. The lands of the Czech Crown thus became part of a vast monarchy for 400 years. The 16th century was marked not only by religious and military conflicts but also by an unprecedented development of musical culture. The influences emanating from the court of the music-loving Habsburgs managed to transform the somewhat conservative environment of Czech towns, allowing the works of significant European composers in the service of royal courts to coexist with the music of their imitators from the bourgeois milieu.
ABOUT THE DYŠKANTI ENSEMBLE
The vocal ensemble Dyškanti was founded in 1982. Over more than twenty years of its existence, many enthusiasts of early music interpretation have passed through it, and for some, it was even the beginning of a successful professional career. The ensemble mainly focuses on sacred music of the Czech Renaissance, but it does not shy away from medieval and baroque music, and in recent years also secular and instrumental music. The ensemble's repertoire primarily draws from the research activities of its leader Martin Horyna, a music historian, editor of monuments of old Czech music, and music theory educator at the University of South Bohemia. A large part of the repertoire comes from his work with sources of Czech music from the 14th to 17th centuries, and the ensemble is fortunate to present these forgotten values in modern premieres. The ensemble has produced several recordings, some of which were released on cassettes by the Rosa publishing house, and some were featured in the television documentary "Music of the Five-Petaled Rose" (ČT 1995). The concert of Renaissance music in the beautiful setting of the historic building of the South Bohemian Museum will offer an unforgettable atmosphere. Experience it with us.
