Description
Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc - Celebrating with Czech and Slovak Music The Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc will perform a festive concert in Šumperk on the occasion of the Day of the Establishment of the Independent Czechoslovak State, featuring beloved works by well-known Czech composers. In the spirit of this significant national holiday, a prominent Czech and Slovak performer will join the Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc on stage. The solo part in Erich Wolfgang Korngold's concert will be taken by the violin virtuoso Jiří Vodička, known for his lively temperament and brilliant interpretative technique. This concert work by the Brno native is a staple of the violin repertoire and particularly in its third movement reveals the composer as a renowned author of music for Hollywood films of the 30s and 40s. The Moravian Philharmonic will be conducted by Slovak conductor and violinist Maroš Potokár, originally from Košice. He will offer his interpretation of Antonín Dvořák's Symphony No. 6, rich in melodic singing, rhythmic vitality, and colorful orchestral sound, to the audience across the Olomouc region. This symphony is sometimes referred to as 'Czech' and belongs to Dvořák's so-called Slavic period, as evidenced by frequent echoes of Czech folk music. Interestingly, both protagonists of the concert have quite similar professional profiles. Both hold leading positions in prominent symphonic orchestras – Jiří Vodička is the concertmaster of the Czech Philharmonic, while Maroš Potokár is the concertmaster of the State Philharmonic Košice. Both successfully perform as soloists and also work as conductors. The symbiosis of these two Renaissance musicians will surely guarantee an unforgettable artistic experience. The festive evening, promising an exceptional artistic experience, is organized by the House of Culture Šumperk in collaboration with the Olomouc Region and the City of Šumperk.
