Description

Poet Halyna Petrosanyak reads from her collection Exophonien, published in 2022 by Der gesunde Menschenversand. Singer and bandura player Julia Sсhewtschenko performs with her own accompaniment on the traditional Ukrainian musical instrument Bandura. Halyna Petrosanyak, born in 1969, has been living in Switzerland since 2016. She is the author of five poetry collections in Ukrainian. In 2022, a selection of her poems translated into German was published under the title Exophonien by the Swiss publisher Der gesunde Menschenversand, with a foreword by Ruth Schweickert. Her prose works published in Ukrainian include: a collection of stories Stör mich nicht beim Weltretten (2019), a novel Villa Anemone (2021), an essay collection Unser Nachbar Albert Hoffmann (2022), and the novel Die Tollkirsche (2024). Halyna Petrosanyak also translates prose from German into Ukrainian. Awards include the Hubert Burda Literature Prize for Eastern European poetry in 2007 and the Ivan-Franko Prize in 2010 (Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine). In 2022, she became a member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts and was awarded the Literature Prize of the Kunststiftung NRW–Straelen. Julia Shewchenko-Skorobagatko was born in 1981 near Kyiv and studied bandura and singing at the Kyiv Music Academy. She has been teaching at Art School No. 5 in Kyiv for years, recently online. Due to the Russian invasion, she moved to Bern in 2022, where she also sings with the Bern City Theatre (Extra Chorus).
