“civil Front – oh, what a wonderful world” is a play performed in Ukrainian Kharkiv and transmitted live to Hamburg using a special technique as an immersive experience – audience and actors can see and hear each other in real time. Created in spring 2023, the play tells the story of two brothers and a dog trying to go about their daily lives amidst sirens and power outages. It is not about soldiers, politics, or grand heroic stories, but about everyday questions: How do you take the dog out when rockets are flying overhead? Where do you get food when supermarkets are closed? How do you face the day when normal life has come to a halt? With much humor and no spoken words, the two performers tell a compelling story about resilience and the absurdity of (survival) in a front-line city.
