Description
A romantic affair between music and language – clever, witty, and with ironic seriousness staged. The melodrama tells us stories of fear and longing, magic and horror of our day and night dreams. Sometimes grand in fashion, then rather despised again, the genre has always been an experimental one, in which composers sought new expressive possibilities. When singing fails because it is too ordinary or too beautiful, the melodrama opens the door to something new, unspeakable, uncanny, or also ironically comic. Featuring works by Friedrich Nietzsche/Joseph von Eichendorff, Robert Schumann/Friedrich Hebbel, Carl Reinecke/Heinrich Heine, Franz Liszt/Gottfried August Bürger, Arnold Winternitz/Gustav Meyrink, and others.
