Bassist, composer, and bandleader Christian McBride has already won eleven GRAMMYs. As if that weren't impressive enough, he also serves as artistic director at various institutions and is regarded as a respected educator and radio host. Whether behind the bass or offstage: Christian McBride is music through and through. As a luminary in jazz, R&B, pop/rock, hip-hop, neo-soul, and classical music, he constantly reaches for new heights with one hand and offers friendship and the challenge to follow with the other. Although in recent years he has performed with giants like Joshua Redman, Brad Mehldau, and Brian Blade, McBride considered forming a new group as early as 2018. "I knew I wanted to have a band someday that I would call 'All-in'. As you know, I always referred to my old band, CMB, as a hybrid band. That meant we could do pretty much everything musically." With this new quintet, he has formed a band that combines various styles. He continues: "Oh, and I also knew very well that it should be a young band. So I looked around and thought about who might be out there that I thought could fit this kind of hybrid / all-in vibe." In Ursa Major, he is accompanied by four emerging young master instrumentalists, including saxophonist Nicole Glover, guitarist Ely Perlman, pianist Mike King, and drummer Savannah Harris.
