After challenging times as a police officer in Zurich, Jock Kobel has been transferred to his hometown: the tranquil Appenzellerland. When a Silvesterchlaus is shot dead in Urnäsch just before New Year’s, he investigates together with his boss from the Criminal Violence Department of the Cantonal Police of Appenzell Ausserrhoden. But Silvana di Novi soon notices that Kobel is not fully present. Could this be related to the visit of his former Zurich colleague, who reminds him of a dark secret from his past? The Chlaus colleagues of the victim direct suspicion towards a young artist who wanted to be part of the male-dominated tradition with her own group—and was threatened if women dared to go out on New Year’s Eve. The murder investigations lead Kobel back to 1980, when Queen Elizabeth visited Switzerland and a group of Zurich residents wanted to make a statement against power and oppression.
