Choir Workshop: Earworms for the Rich to Fall in Love With Getting Poor

How do you reach someone who has stopped listening? Many anti-capitalist forms of protest rely on volume to attract attention. However, loud slogans rarely change attitudes or beliefs. This workshop takes a different approach: starting from voice, vibration, and collective sonic presence, a siren-like choir will be developed and tested. The catchy songs, which can later be performed in front of villas, yachts, casinos, luxury hotels, as well as exclusive clubs and shops, aim to inspire change and encourage the wealthy to share. The workshop is based on Ingo Niermann's video work Positive Terror – 7 Tutorials. After basic singing exercises, participants will collaboratively develop, arrange, and perform exemplary songs. In this context, Nicole L’Huillier's upcoming exhibition Canción de Amor will serve as a tuning laboratory: an architecture activated by touch, voice, and movement that transforms individual gestures into a collective, ever-changing sound composition. The exhibition provides a space to experiment with collective listening and resonance and forms the framework for the choir's second meeting. The first meeting will take place on 13.9. at Shedhalle Zurich. The choir workshop is part of a collaboration between Shedhalle Zurich and the Migros Museum of Contemporary Art. Nicole L’Huillier (*1985 in Santiago, Chile, lives and works in Berlin) is a transdisciplinary artist and researcher at the intersection of art, science, and technology. Her works include installations, sound and vibration sculptures, performances, and experimental compositions. She studied architecture at the Universidad de Chile and earned her PhD in 2022 at the MIT Media Lab. Her awards include the MIT Harold and Arlene Schnitzer Prize in the Visual Arts and a scholarship from the Berlin Artists Program of the DAAD. Her works have been presented internationally, including at the Venice Biennale (2024), the Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts (2025), the Bienal do Mercosul (2025), Kunsthalle Bern, and the Ming Contemporary Art Museum in Shanghai. She researches and teaches at the Department of Architecture at ETH Zurich. Ingo Niermann is a writer and artist living in Basel. His work operates at the intersections of literature, speculative writing, art, and social and political thought. He is the editor of the Solution Series published by Sternberg Press and the author of numerous books, including Umbauland, Complete Love, Mare Amoris, and The Monadic Age. His works have been presented at documenta, the Berlin Biennale, the Istanbul Biennale, and ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, among others. Additionally, Niermann initiated the project Army of Love, which deals with the redistribution of sensual love and intimacy.
