Description

The monument-protected department store built in 1903 at Hauptstrasse 55 in Sissach is now a café and a popular event venue operated by a cultural association. The upper floors are partly rented out, partly used by the owner family as a private museum and archive. To periodically make this valuable cultural asset, largely preserved in its original condition, accessible to the public, the cultural association organized a monthly tour with the 94-year-old owner and architect Robert Häfelfinger. On this occasion, he shares the history of the illustrious, historic building, guides visitors through its hidden treasures, and recounts many interesting oral stories and historical contexts that he mostly alone knows. Documenting this cultural asset and its central bearer on film stems from the desire to make the world of the elderly owner and the history of this extraordinary place accessible to the district capital Sissach and to preserve it in the original sound for future generations. The short film portrays both the owner and architect Robert Häfelfinger and the former department store with its interesting contents. The special significance of this cultural monument and family archive is acknowledged with greetings from monument preservation, the Sissach culture commission, and music by Simon Dettwiler, followed by a reception.
