Description

The Magic Table is a mechanical table constructed for the dining room of the Český Krumlov summer palace Bellarie during its Schwarzenberg reconstruction around 1740. It is a special oval table in the center of the room, which has a movable central plate that can lift dishes prepared for the company seated around the table from the basement without traditional service. This fact gave such a social event, intended for a small noble company, a specific and very unusual character, as dining without the service of servants was almost impossible in the everyday life of the nobility. The lecture will present experiments with serving dishes using the Magic Table, which took place during international courses of experimental retro-gastronomy in October 2025 at the Český Krumlov Bellarie. The lecture is presented by Mgr. Milan Svoboda, Faculty of Philosophy and Science, Silesian University in Opava, Metropolitan University Prague.
