CHURCH BELLS (NOT ONLY) IN VALČ For hundreds of years, the sound of bells has been part of the life of towns, villages, and the entire Central European landscape. They announced the time, called people to worship, accompanied individuals from birth to death, and signaled moments of joy, danger, and sorrow. The casting and hanging of a new bell was a significant event for the entire community. The silencing of bells during the world wars was all the more painful, as thousands of bells disappeared from towers – including both bells of the castle church in Valč. How is a bell created? What can its inscriptions and decorations reveal to us? Why do bells have names? And what was the fate of the Valč bells? We invite you to a lecture by Mgr. Miloš Bělohlávek titled Church Bells (Not Only) in Valč, where we will explore the history of bells, bell founding, and the story of the bells whose sound we would now like to return to Valč.
