Description

As heirs of over 200 years of history and deeply influenced by the handwriting of Anton Bruckner, the orchestra unfolds a full, radiant sound. Poschner, who is well known to the Swiss audience, was the chief conductor of the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana for ten years before taking over this position at the Sinfonieorchester Basel in 2025. Poschner's expressive gestures make his conducting always tense and flowing. At the beginning, heroism condenses in Beethoven's Egmont Overture into a concentrate of struggle and freedom. Saint-Saëns' Symphony No. 1, which connects its three movements in a sweeping Allegro, then shows balance, clarity, and virtuosity, emphasizing the rich timbres of the cello. In the series of great cellists invited by Noda WKB — Anastasia Kobekina, Kian Soltani, Pablo Ferrández, and soon Gautier Capuçon — Julia Hagen impresses with natural boldness. The highlight of the evening is Bruckner's Symphony No. 4, nicknamed "Romantic," which features medieval sounds, the famous Hunting Scherzo, mysticism, and light.
