Preparing Nettle Fibers and Spinning a Fine Thread

The fiber of the nettle is a small natural treasure: it is particularly fine and hollow inside. This structure makes textiles made from nettle exceptionally temperature-regulating. In this course, we delve into material science and learn the entire process from fiber extraction to processing. The focus is on fiber preparation. For beginners: no prior experience is necessary. Although spinning requires practice, we start slowly so that all participants can spin their own thread by the end. For advanced participants: experienced spinners can explore the special material properties of nettle compared to wool or flax and refine their technique. Led by: Mechtilde Frintrup, author, graphic designer, nature artist, and herbal practitioner from Andas Werkstatt Duration: 3 hours Cost: CHF 145.- including materials The course will be held from 5 participants. Maximum number of participants: 10 people. Please bring: - small box for fibers (small shoebox or similar, at least 20 x 20 cm), - if available: pocket knife, small flat pliers (for cracking stems), a relatively light spindle, hand carders, a hair comb.
