Jacques Brel is a fighter. A seeker. A humanist who uncompromisingly stands for the authentic in people and in the community – and repeatedly fails himself… The singer and actor Grégoire Gros has translated original interviews, texts, and sound recordings of the Belgian chansonnier into English and created a compelling concert evening from them. With great intensity, he leads the evening as Jacques Brel and makes his multifaceted personality tangible. At the center are the chansons that Gros interprets together with the Zuger Sinfonietta. They reflect Brel's eventful life between hope and resignation, tenderness and rebellion. A touching theater evening that brings Brel's universe to life and encourages reflection on ourselves. JACQUES BREL (1929–1978) was a singer, composer, and actor who shaped French chanson like hardly anyone else. Discovered in Paris in the 1950s, he achieved his breakthrough in 1956 with "Quand on n’a que l’amour." World hits like "Ne me quitte pas" or "Amsterdam" made him immortal before he turned to film and other passions from 1967 onwards. GRÉGOIRE GROS studied acting at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin and has since performed on stages such as Theater Bonn, Central Theater Leipzig, Théâtre National du Luxembourg, and Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz in Berlin.
