«Boyhood» was filmed over a decade. Little Mason grows up alongside his actor Ellar Coltrane. It turns a fictional long-term study into a genuine coming-of-age film. Nothing with elaborate makeup or cast changes to make someone look older. The film project adapted to the passage of time and was shot in stages: From 2002, the ensemble of American indie director Richard Linklater met annually for filming, and his changes became part of the staging. The story centers on Mason, who has to deal with his demanding sister Samantha and his divorced parents. Ethan Hawke plays the father, who himself needs some time to grow up.
