"Borneo Louis" - Book Presentation with Reading and Music

Louis Wyrsch was the first community president of Ennetbürgen. He was an important Nidwalden personality in the formation of the Swiss federal state, and his son Louis was elected in 1860 as the first parliamentarian of color in Switzerland to the National Council. "Borneo-Louis," as he was called, since returning from Dutch colonial service to Nidwalden in 1832, did not fit into the political and social world of Nidwalden in the 19th century. As a moderate liberal, he fought against the stubbornness of conservative politicians, the Catholic clergy, and the majority of the Nidwalden population. Nevertheless, he was elected to the government, entrusted with command of the Nidwalden troops in the Sonderbund War, and represented Nidwalden in the 1848 constitutional commission. In private life, he lived in the tension between two women, a Malay woman in Borneo and a Stockmann from Sarnen. Who was "Borneo-Louis"? Tony Ettlin (1950) grew up in Stans in the free Republic of Schmiedgasse. After a long professional career at Swissair and as an independent consultant for organizational development, he made writing his main occupation. Besides his monthly stories, which can be subscribed to, and the calendar stories in the Nidwalden Brattig, he has published: "Blätterteig und Völkerball – eine Kindheit im Schatten des Stanserhorns," the short story collection "Läderach bringt täglich die Post," "Cuntrabanda – Schmugglergeschichten aus dem Münstertal," and the CD "Die daa und die dänä" with poems in the Nidwalden dialect.
