Trio in G minor Choreography: Pavel Šmok Costume Design: Josef Jelínek Music: Bedřich Smetana Interpretation: Libuše Ovsová Length of choreography: 33 minutes The sad impetus for composing the Trio in G minor was the premature death of Smetana's exceptionally gifted daughter Bedřiška. The composer seemingly wanted to escape his pain through this work. Despite these circumstances, the trio is musically beautiful, sounds delightful, and leaves a deep impression on the listener. Alongside themes full of tragedy, we find lyrical themes filled with hope and love. After the first lyrical movement, life seems to awaken in the second, beautiful memories of time spent with children. The composer wishes to mourn the lost being but continue with his life and work. The uniqueness of the Trio in G minor inspired one of the leading Czech choreographers of the second half of the 20th century, PAVEL ŠMOK (1927-2016). The work of this significant choreographer is very rich and closely tied to the music of Czech composers. In the Trio in G minor, Pavel Šmok managed to express the content and depth of the musical piece in a congenial manner through movement. ************************ INTERMISSION ****************** Mozzartissimo Choreography: Marika Blahoutová Costumes: Josef Jelínek Music: W. Mozart, Eine kleine Nachtmusik Length of choreography: 22 minutes A choreography full of diversity, rivalry of dance styles, relational mishaps, and human stumbles, depicts with Mozart's musical playfulness the variety of dance techniques. With a touch of magic, it fulfills dreams of all kinds and culminates in the harmony of all dancers in a virtuosic finale. Mozzartissimo is technically very demanding, yet it evokes a sense of lightness, joy, and elicits laughter from the audience.
