Description
A word-and-music program by Ludwig van Beethoven, «Nothing of Calm!»
Portrait of a life in extremes Vera Bauer's Beethoven portrait paints a compelling picture of the composer's youth in a poor, large musician's household. In a time marked by the approach of the French Revolution, Beethoven's early musical genius, his move to Vienna, and the all-consuming drive to dedicate himself to art. From close friendships and dramatic love affairs to the loss of his hearing. Amid such extreme experiences, Ludwig van Beethoven creates an immense musical work as a passionate, comprehensive spirit, which continues to challenge and move even after two centuries. Benjamin Engeli conveys the sonic dimension of Beethoven's musical cosmos with musical intensity and his brilliant piano playing. Vera Bauer, speaker and stage author, represents an independent voice of free theatrical creation with her word-music programs. In her stage plays, she brings to life the themes of life of great authors for the present. Born in Cleveland/USA, raised near Stuttgart, diploma in cello from the Freiburg University of Music, training as a speaker in Freiburg and Zurich. Her solo programs (word and cello) and ensemble productions are performed by Vera Bauer on various theater stages, churches, and concert halls. Her stage partners have included the Auryn Quartet, the Swiss Octet, the Trio Pianottoni, the Singfrauen Winterthur, and the Bartholdy Ensemble at chamber music matinees at the Tonhalle Zurich. Vera Bauer has contributed to radio features in the series "Old Music" on Deutschlandfunk Kultur. Benjamin Engeli, piano, is one of the most versatile Swiss pianists of his generation. His career as a soloist, chamber musician, and teacher has taken him to numerous European countries as well as Australia, China, India, North and South America. As a soloist, he has performed with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra Moscow, and the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, among others. Numerous CD recordings of works from Bach to modernity demonstrate his broad stylistic range. Benjamin Engeli trained at the Basel Music Academy, among others, with Adrian Oetiker. Further studies were with Homero Francesch, Lazar Berman, Maurizio Pollini, and András Schiff. He was a lecturer for chamber music at the Basel University of Music for eight years. Since 2013, he has led a piano class at the Vorarlberg State Conservatory in Feldkirch. Benjamin Engeli is a member of Ensemble Kandinsky and a sought-after musical partner worldwide.
