«Beethoven und Bruckner» – Chorsinfonik

Description

Despite the rather short duration, the «Te Deum» impresses with its compositional range and emotional depth: mighty sound cathedrals supported by the organ contrast with sensitive solo passages. Even the deeply religious and particularly self-critical composer was once satisfied with this, his most successful choral work. This is evidenced by the following words, allegedly from Bruckner: «When dear God calls me to Him one day and asks: 'Where are the talents I gave you?', then I will hold out the score of my Te Deum to Him, and He will be a merciful judge to me.» The programmatic counterpart is Ludwig van Beethoven's «Christus am Ölberge» on the eve of his 200th death anniversary. His only oratorio was composed in spring 1803 in supposedly only two weeks and was not an opera only because performances of such were forbidden during Lent. Nevertheless, he staged the arrest of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane unusually operatically and dramatically. Cast:
