Drama ballet by Jörg Mannes after William Shakespeare in cooperation with the Heinz-Bosl-Stiftung, the Bavarian State Ballet, and the Ballet Academy, the University of Music and Theater Munich. In Shakespeare's comedy Twelfth Night, love is entangled in disguise, identity change, and self-deception. Duke Orsino loves Olivia, who falls in love with Cesario, behind whom Viola is hidden, and who in turn loves Orsino. With the appearance of her twin brother Sebastian, jealousy and chaos threaten to escalate, while Malvolio experiences the cruel side of disappointed hopes. Choreographer Jörg Mannes focuses his ballet adaptation on the tension between deception and self-deception. With a clear, reduced aesthetic, this drama ballet promises to be a highlight of the season. Mannes has danced at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, worked internationally, for example at the Bolshoi Theatre, and shaped the ensemble in Hannover as a long-standing ballet director. Since 2022, he has been directing the Ballet at the Magdeburg Theatre. The Bayerisches Junior Ballett München, the junior company of the Bavarian State Ballet, was founded in 2010 as the first of its kind in Germany. With 16 members aged between 17 and 20, it remains the largest junior company in Germany. The young talents stay in the ensemble for a maximum of two years to prepare intensively for their professional careers. Under the direction of Ivan Liška, the ensemble has established itself as a cultural ambassador for Bavaria internationally and performs on stages across Europe, Israel, and Hong Kong. In the US, the international dancers are always celebrated guests. With Was Ihr wollt, the ensemble now presents its first full-length drama ballet – as an exclusive preview of the autumn matinée at the National Theatre Munich – translating Shakespeare's love play into the expressive language of dance.
