A lecture series in cooperation with the Barragan Foundation explores the work of Luis Barragán from various perspectives. The topic of this lecture is the Casa Majahua, a vacation home built by Luis Barragán in the 1950s on the Mexican Pacific coast. Located in a remote area amidst lush nature, it was only used for a short time and has since increasingly fallen into decay. In light of the need to preserve this significant architectural testimony from disappearing, the house was extensively documented as part of the Summer School led by the German-Mexican architecture studio Zeller & Moye at the Architectural Association School of Architecture. Through images and film clips, drawings, material collections, and designs, the lecture looks at the remains of the Casa Majahua as well as reuse, repair, and overlay strategies and sustainable ways to bring the ruin back to life.
