The ballet evening «Echoes of Tchaikovsky» invites the audience on a fascinating journey through the timeless sound fantasies of the great composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840–1893), who composed three ballets between 1877 and 1893: «Swan Lake», «Sleeping Beauty», and «The Nutcracker», which have achieved legendary status and must not be missing from any standard classical ballet repertoire. «Echoes of Tchaikovsky» combines selected excerpts from these three iconic ballets in a new, condensed form and brings them to life anew – powerful, poetic, and full of dance elegance. BALLET ILLICITE was founded in 2015 in Bayonne, France, by Fábio Lopez. The former dancer of Malandain Ballet Biarritz closely links his work as artistic director and resident choreographer to the history of dance. Lopez follows the aesthetic line of great choreographers such as David Dawson, Maurice Béjart, Hans van Manen, and Jean-Christophe Maillot. In his program «Echoes of Tchaikovsky», he combines the emotional depth of Tchaikovsky's music with impressive contemporary interpretation and celebrates the magic of classical ballet moments that still resonate today.
