Description

The story of Nikola Šuhaj the bandit, inspired by the novel by Ivan Olbracht, received a stage musical version in the 1970s at the Divadlo na provázku in Brno. Few knew at the time that the text was written by Milan Uhde, who was inconvenient and banned by the previous regime (the director of the first production, Zdeněk Pospíšil, was officially credited as the author). In 1978, a film of the same name was made based on this play (directed by Vladimír Sís). Since then, Nikola, his love Eržika, Mageri, the bandits, the police, and other heroes of the story have gained immortality, and the songs have become indelibly popular – at least in the memories and hearts of their viewers and listeners. In the Příbram theater, we will return to the bandit Nikola with love and with all respect and humility to the power of the story of great love and betrayal, as well as to the songs that continue to delight and move us. We believe they will do the same for you. Our production will also feature a live band.
