Did you know that in earlier centuries, Northwestern Switzerland attracted strangers from afar – people who enjoyed spa treatments in a spa hotel, strolled through the picturesque landscape, and sketched particularly charming views in their travel diaries? Until the outbreak of the First World War, it was not uncommon for visitors from different countries to stay for several days or even weeks in the hinterland of the city of Basel.
The exhibition aims to show, through various documents and installations, the development of tourism in our region, which clientele used to visit the land between Jura and the Rhine, and which customers are addressed today with which offers. There are also many surprising discoveries to be made.
