Description

The Belgian singer and composer Sophie Tassignon, the German-American alto saxophonist, clarinetist, singer, and composer Susanne Folk, the German bass clarinetist and soprano saxophonist Lothar Ohlmeier, as well as the Swiss double bassist Andreas Waelti possess a wealth of experience and a shared musical language that goes beyond well-known jazz conventions. Together, they form the international quartet AZOLIA. AZOLIA is known for its thoughtful arrangements, transparent sound textures, distinctive sonic identity, and deep sense of poetry. Without drums, but with plenty of space for refined musical interplay, the ensemble explores human desires, doubts, and possibilities. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Rainer Maria Rilke's death in 2026, AZOLIA will present a new program in which selected Rilke poems are subtly incorporated into chamber jazz compositions. In AZOLIA's interpretations, Rilke's language becomes audible in a new way: fragile, luminous, and resonant. Driven by the subtle, airy, and deeply felt music of the ensemble, the concert will surely move, stir, and inspire hope in the audience. With "UNIT live!" the Moods and the renowned Swiss jazz label UNIT Records join forces to create a joint format. Regularly, we bring current productions from the UNIT universe to the Moods stage and showcase the diversity of UNIT jazz.
