Excursion to the Rhine Falls / to Schaffhausen

Description

To conclude the steam season 2026, the Zürcher Oberland Steam Railway Society will take a trip to Schaffhausen. The journey starts from Bauma through the lower Tösstal to Winterthur Töss. There, passengers have the opportunity to board while the locomotive maneuvers the train. From Winterthur Töss, we then travel through the Zürcher Unterland towards Schaffhausen. In Andelfingen, we cross the Thur on the distinctive steel truss bridge dating from the 1850s. After an initial stop at the station of the same name, the train passes under Laufen Castle at the Rhine Falls, offering a view of the upper part of the waterfall. In Schaffhausen, our journey pauses. During the nearly two-hour break, you can explore the picturesque old town or ascend to the Munot circular fortress. The second part of the trip begins shortly after departure with another highlight. We can again enjoy the view of the Rhine Falls, but this time for a longer period and from a completely different perspective. Guests who spent the afternoon at the Rhine Falls will reboard at the Neuhausen Rheinfall station. Afterwards, the train briefly crosses into German territory, passing Jestetten and Lottstetten to Eglisau. The bridge over the Rhine there offers a wonderful view and is undoubtedly another highlight of our journey. In Bülach, we enjoy a photo and fresh air break of about 20 minutes before heading over Embrach-Rorbas and Pfungen towards Winterthur Töss. There, another stop is planned. Finally, we follow the Töss back towards the home station Bauma, where our trip ends.
