Description

Connected through a long-standing artistic exchange and close friendship, the two artists reflect on their shared interests in sound, listening, resonance, and collective experiences. The conversation focuses on their artistic practices as well as questions about vibration, embodiment, technology, and alternative forms of perception and connection. In a dialogue between two artists whose work deals intensively with sound and the act of listening, it is examined how artistic processes can expand our understanding of environments, relationships, and communication forms. L’Huillier and Emge discuss listening as a creative and political practice, as well as how artistic works can create spaces for encounter, resonance, and transformation. Nicole L’Huillier (*1985 in Santiago, Chile, lives and works in Berlin) is a transdisciplinary artist and researcher at the intersection of art, science, and technology. Her work includes installations, sound and vibration sculptures, performances, and experimental compositions. She studied architecture at the Universidad de Chile and completed her PhD in 2022 at the MIT Media Lab. Her awards include the MIT Harold and Arlene Schnitzer Prize in Visual Arts and a scholarship from the Berlin Artists Program of the DAAD. Her works have been presented internationally, including at the Venice Biennale (2024), Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts (2025), Mercosul Biennial (2025), Kunsthalle Bern, and Ming Contemporary Art Museum in Shanghai. She researches and teaches at the Department of Architecture at ETH Zurich. Nina Emge (*1995 in Zurich) is an artist living in Zurich and Berlin. In her work, she explores the social dimensions of sound, voice, silence, and listening. Through installations, drawings, and research- and archive-based processes, she addresses questions of collective working methods, decentralization, and alternative forms of knowledge production. Emge is a member of the Transnational Sound Initiative. Her works have been shown at Kunsthalle Zurich, Kunsthalle Bern, Istituto Svizzero, Shedhalle Zurich, and Halle für Kunst Lüneburg.
