AQUA SONANS - sounding water. Concert for organ & electronics

Description

Water is the basic element of all life and at the same time stands for transformation. The center of the concert program is the idea of making water audible and tangible as a symbol of change. Water has its own sound: it flows, splashes, drips, and moves – audible in its natural timbres, rhythms, and pitches. The centerpiece of the concert is Johann Sebastian Bach's chorale prelude "By the Waters of Babylon" as well as Adrian Foster's "Babylon’s Waters." The two compositions form a mirror pair. Works by Eric Ruffing and Lauren Redhead complement the program into a diverse whole. In addition, there will be an improvisation for organ and electronics in which pipe tones, water sounds, and synthetic sounds merge into a sonic continuum.

General Information

The concert "AQUA SONANS" takes place in the Roman Catholic Church of St. Theresia in Allschwil. It presents compositions and improvisations that make the theme of water musically tangible, with a special focus on Johann Sebastian Bach's chorale prelude.
