Amor et Psyche

Description

Under the title Amor et Psyche, this evening revolves around love as longing, seduction, vulnerability, and inner movement. At the center is the soprano Maayan Licht, whose noble voice gives the different facets of this theme a unique sound form. The baroque arias are not simply individual numbers but stations of a concert program that explores and makes audible emotional states. Henry Purcell's Fantasy upon one note opens the evening with music of concentrated tension. Over a sustained tone, a fine network of voices unfolds, acting like a pause before the first word. Hugo Wolf's Italian Serenade then brings movement, approach, and a slight crackling into play. With Maayan Licht, a voice appears that gives this program its center. Arias by Purcell, Händel, Vivaldi, and other composers tell of desire, doubt, devotion, and pain. In them, love does not appear as a state but as an all-encompassing experience that transforms the human being. It is precisely in this that the program touches on the myth of Amor and Psyche. The evening concludes with Giuseppe Verdi's String Quartet in E minor in an arrangement for string orchestra. Even without words, Verdi's theatrical sound language remains. What previously took shape in the voice continues here in pure instrumental sound. Henry Purcell: Fantasy upon one note
