Description
With the intercultural oratorio «Stabat Mater» by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins (*1944), the AmadeusChor has recently chosen a work that sets a sign of solidarity and connection with all mourners of this time. By incorporating texts in various languages (including Aramaic, the language of Jesus), cultures, as well as musical elements from classical and Oriental music, we are committed, in the spirit of the composer, to a creative and respectful way of interacting. The power of helplessness, which Jenkins’ Stabat Mater tells of, affects many places around the world. Twelve stations mark the path through Jenkins’ composition. It begins under the cross, in the immediate suffering of Mother Mary, carried by pain and heartfelt compassion. Karl Jenkins expands the medieval Latin poem with additional thoughts that speak of suffering and mourning and unfold the meditative depth of the work. With impressive sounds, pulsating rhythms, and partly oriental instrumentation, they create extraordinary sound worlds. In the end, the Paradisi Gloria with the mighty Amen and Hallelujah makes a sign of hope.
