«Aline» takes place around 1905 in a small farming village in the Vaud region and tells a simple love story full of tragedy. Aline, the daughter of a poor widow, falls in love with Julien, the son of the mayor. While she dreams of a shared future, he is only interested in pleasure. When Aline becomes pregnant, he leaves her, speaks badly of her, and both the village and her mother turn away from her. The tragedy unfolds. Ramuz’s poetic language is combined in the specially developed version for the scenic reading with an open scenic form, music, and an atmospheric soundscape. The production tells of rural order, closeness, and inner upheaval in an open scenic form. At the center is a sturdy table as a symbol of a seemingly orderly domestic world. Three chairs slowly move around their own axis – a minimal movement within rigid conditions. The audience sits all around and becomes part of this order: observing and participating at the same time. The gentle spinning creates unrest – nothing breaks openly, yet everything shifts. Two actresses and a musician realize the novel with narration passages, dialogues, memories, sounds, and music. Flute, violin, and singing blend with sounds of nature, everyday life, and church bells into a unique soundscape. Featuring Margrit Gysin and Dominique Lüdin (actors) and Deborah Regez (music). Kaspar Geiger directs. An evening that makes Ramuz’s poetic story anew with music and an unusual scenic form.
