Description

Romantic sound worlds for violin The violinist Alena Baeva is said to have a "magnetic presence" on stage and a passionate musical curiosity – just some of the qualities that have earned her a reputation as a fascinating and versatile soloist on stages around the world in recent years. Before she performs as a soloist twice in this program, we delve with Swiss composer Othmar Schoeck into a sensually warm summer night – truly fitting for this time of year and between two works from the far North! However, the music of Finland's national composer Jean Sibelius is anything but cool, as shown by his two temperamentally playful Humoresques for violin and orchestra. After these virtuosic flights, Alena Baeva will take on Felix Mendelssohn's d minor violin concerto, composed when he was just 13, which unfolds a stormy romantic expressive urge within a classical framework. The Zurich Chamber Orchestra will perform the expressive and melodically rich string quartet by Fanny Hensel, the older sister and lifelong musical confidante of Felix Mendelssohn, composed twelve years later.
