The Swiss band OM is a phenomenon. How many bands worldwide have played together in unchanged line-up for almost half a century and continually explored new boundaries? 50 years ago, the four musicians made music history across Europe with their "Electricjazz-Freemusic." Today, OM uses improvisation as an instrument. They have developed a new playing technique that sharpens the immediacy of this instrument without neglecting the dramaturgy of the whole. The fusion energy from the clash of Hendrix and Coltrane, from which OM once emerged, continues to glow. At the same time, the transformation process of the four musicians has given way to new sound images and surprises that can only be created live. Magda Mayas
Magda Mayas is a pianist, composer, artistic researcher, and educator. After jazz piano studies in Berlin and Amsterdam, she earned her doctorate at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. She works in the field of contemporary improvised music, including duo performances with drummer Tony Buck, with saxophonist Christine Abdelnour (Paris), or the Splitter Orchestra Berlin. She is a lecturer and responsible for improvisation at HSLU and has released over 40 CDs so far.
