Description

The TonTanz Ensemble combines chamber music and dance to tell a story that appears absurd at first but remains relevant. The performance explores the journey of the tulip from Persia to Europe, highlighting its cultural significance and historical rise and fall, including the famous tulip mania and the first stock market crash. Dancers choreograph the development of the tulip, expressing fragility, joy, and decay, while musicians perform arrangements of Iranian folk dances, Turkish songs, Balkan music, and works by Delibes, Schubert, and a commissioned piece by Künzli. Attendees will be introduced to the history of tulip mania and enjoy a rich blend of music and movement.
