Description

In 1876 it came to Kyburg, since then it has haunted the building and even more so the minds of the visitors. The Iron Maiden, long recognized as a fake, remains our most famous exhibit. On the occasion of the anniversary, we explore the fascination with a special exhibition. We trace the origin of the Iron Maiden from legend to the "real" object, show how it has settled in people's minds, and how the museum has presented it over time. We contrast the false torture instrument with current knowledge about the torture suffered by the accused at Kyburg during the Landvogt period.
