For in their search for freedom, but above all for closeness and connection, the protagonists push their bodies and souls to the limit and run up an emotional debt that they will later pay off painfully. A paixão segundo G. H. B. is sexy, repulsive, dirty, fascinating – and radically value-free. Yet no one will come away from this film feeling indifferent.
