Description

The imaginative art fairy tale "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King" by E.T.A. Hoffmann comes to life anew in this special stage adaptation. The story was specially adapted for the Swiss Youth Eurythmy Festival 2026 and combined with selected movements from the famous Nutcracker Suite by P. I. Tchaikovsky.

At the center is young Marie, who discovers a mysterious world on a Christmas Eve. Between reality and dream unfolds a story of courage, loyalty, and inner transformation: The unassuming Nutcracker becomes the protector, the battle against the Mouse King begins – and Marie finds within herself the strength to stand up for good. Behind the seemingly playful surface, a deeper level opens: the question of the nature of reality and fantasy.

This poetic world is made tangible through the art of eurythmy. In the combination of movement, music, and speech, impressive images arise that not only tell the story but make it visible. Music and movement intertwine and create their own, living form of expression.

The performance is created by around 90 young people from all over Switzerland, who have prepared over several months and bring their work together in an intensive project week into a joint stage work. The performance is accompanied live by the Crescendo Youth Symphony Orchestra.

The production is in German and is aimed at a broad audience – from families to art enthusiasts to people who want to discover a new approach to music, movement, and theater.

An evening that touches imagination and reality and leaves open the question of what might lie behind the visible.
