54th Les Plans-sur-Bex Foot Race - Cabane Plan-Névé

Description

The legendary race Les Plans-sur-Bex - Cabane de Plan-Névé takes place in a dreamlike setting, on steep trails, in the heart of breathtaking nature. It all starts with online registration for the bib, with the option to receive it by mail or pick it up at Heidi’s Guesthouse. The start is in front of the Les Plans bus stop, easily recognizable by the arch you must pass through. The race begins in the village of Les Plans-sur-Bex. If the sky is clear and your gaze sharp, you can already see the flag of the cabin in the distance marking the finish line. To reach it, you cross a miniature summary of the Alps mountain range. You start on a small plateau surrounded by mountains, then plunge into a spectacular gorge – whose coolness you will soon regret once you are out in the open air. After 2 km, you emerge at Pont-de-Nant, a trail junction. Gradually, the forest gives way to alpine meadows, while the neighboring peaks are revealed. The view opens onto the Rhône plain and – on clear days – Lake Geneva. When oxygen starts to become scarce, a flat section appears before you like a mirage, before the trail resumes more vigorously. This is where you begin to feel the vertigo of the Alps, the mineral gray of the rocks, as vegetation gives way to scree. Finally, the flag seen from the chapel reappears: only 500 meters left, but they will seem endless… until you finally reach the much-anticipated bonfire. The moment has come to turn around and take time to contemplate the route traveled and admire the valley you come from. After 6.4 km of effort and 1190 meters of positive elevation gain, you stop the stopwatch in front of the cabin’s bonfire. You are rewarded with a slice of pie and a non-alcoholic drink – well deserved after this ascent. Before descending, don’t forget to ask the guardian for your souvenir prize.
