53rd cycle of Baden City Church Concerts: Tuba and organ

Description

In the 53rd cycle of the Baden City Church Concerts, the well-known tuba player Henrique Costa and organist Antje Maria Traub play selected works.

The young Portuguese tuba player Henrique dos Santos Costa, winner of the International Tchaikovsky Competition in St. Petersburg, the International Instrumental Competition in Markneukirchen in Saxony and the Concorso Internazionale "Città Di Porcia" in Italy, is characterized by a special curiosity to explore the artistic possibilities of his instrument as a soloist. He plays this large wind instrument with versatility, elegance, virtuosity and a dynamic sound. Henrique dos Santos Costa regularly performs with orchestras or in solo recitals. Henrique Costa has been assistant professor of the tuba class at the Zurich University of the Arts since 2019.

The tuba, the large brass instrument, is highly visible and equally audible in the orchestra. Henrique dos Santos Costa knows how to present the large instrument in a subtle, melodious and delicately singing way. The focus is on arrangements by the composer Johann Sebastian Bach: the Italian Concerto and the movements from Bach's Cello Suite are reinterpreted. Tommaso Albinoni's Concerto in D minor Op. 9/2, originally for oboe, will be performed. Antje Maria Traub will play organ works by Johann Gottfried Walther and Johann Sebastian Bach.
