Ottorino Respighi Pines of Rome (Die Pinien von Rom) "Elefantenrennen" is what it's called when two trucks try to overtake each other and block two lanes of the highway because one "elephant" isn't really faster than the other. For Strauss: 107 orchestra members and a remote orchestra consisting of 12 horns, 2 trumpets, and 2 trombones. Supertrumpf: Heckelfon, wind machine, thunder sheet, and herd bells. In the overtaking lane for Respighi: 109 musicians with half a regiment of brass players, including 6 buccinas that sound as if Caesar himself sent his legions across the highway. Supertrumpf: a sparrow choir with 17 nightingales. Which "elephant" wins the race is decided by your applause.
