Where Rapunzel meets Samichlaus.

"And if they haven't died, then they are still alive today" – and appear, "Simsalabim!", just like that in the old town of Zug: fairies, witches and wizards, jugglers, storytellers and musicians. On December 6th, it's that time again: from 1:30 PM to 6:00 PM, the Zuger Märlisunntig awaits young and old with numerous attractions.

At 1:30 PM, the Märlisunnig is heralded by fanfare sounds from the city landmark Zytturm. Then around 30 Märlistuben open their doors. The storytellers look forward to taking their small and large guests into the fairy tale land. Also, between the Märlistuben, magicians, musicians, jugglers, clowns, balloon and fire artists are on the move to enchant young and old. Around 8,000 visitors from Zug and the surrounding cantons are expected. The old town – Grabenstrasse and Neustadt – is traffic-free from 1:30 PM to 6:00 PM.

From the face painting booth to the fairy tale forest
From the government building via Bahnhofstrasse to Vorstadt and back to the government building, carriages run – just line up, get in and ride for free. Little guests who want to take a ride on the children's train or a historic carousel are welcome at Landsgemeindeplatz. Here you will also find a Christmas bazaar and the popular face painting and photo booth. On Grabenstrasse, a small petting zoo with animals from dwarf goats to donkeys is a guest. And those seeking adventure can swing over the suspension bridge in Rapunzel's fairy tale forest. Here, at Gärbiplatz, you can also decorate a gingerbread heart or sit comfortably by the fire with a hot drink.

Delicacies from Samichlaus
As always, the Zuger Märlisunntig takes place on the 2nd Advent Sunday. Therefore, Samichlaus and Schmutzlis, Trychlen, Iffelen and Geisselchlöpfer must not be missing. Anyone who meets a Samichlaus can look forward to a treat – the Samichlaus would also be happy, namely about a small poem. Speaking of treats: many Zug clubs offer drinks, cookies and other delicacies. In addition, a mulled wine booth is set up in the customs house and most restaurants also have a warm spot ready.

Drumming and fireworks
From 5:00 PM, around 50 drummers march from Hirschenplatz to Landsgemeindeplatz, where from 5:15 PM all the Chläuse and Schmutzlis, Trychlen, Iffelen, Geisselchlöpfer, jugglers, magicians and Märli figures gather to ring out the Märlisunntig and enjoy a small magical fireworks display together with all guests.

Free admission to the fairy tale world
Admission to the fairy tale world is free (limited seating). Those who want to support the non-commercial event can purchase a Märlisunntig button for 5 francs at the info stand at Kolinplatz or from the Märlisunntig mascot "Märlin" and his court staff. The Märlistuben appreciate donations.

Visitors are asked to arrive by public transport. Parking spaces in the city of Zug are limited.

Doors open about 15 minutes before the start of the performance. Limited seating in the individual Märlistuben (fire safety regulations). Program changes reserved.
