Description
The argovia philharmonic will open the concert evening under the direction of its honorary conductor Douglas Bostock with Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2. The work shines through pianistic virtuosity and emotional depth. As soloists, we are pleased to welcome back the celebrated Swiss pianist Oliver Schnyder after five years, who will tackle the complicated rhythms and technical passages of this work. The finale is Sir Hubert Parry's Symphony No. 2 "Cambridge." Strongly influenced by Brahms, it is considered Parry's most mature symphony and a milestone of 19th-century British symphonic music. It indirectly paved the way for later composers such as Elgar and contributed to Parry becoming a central figure in English music education. Program:
