Description

Everything different and new, but somehow also back to the roots. We celebrate the opening of the 37th HIQFF with you at the cinema and with the German premiere of MISS CARBÓN – and in three cinemas at once. To ensure enough space for everyone, we show our opening film at different times in the 3001 Cinema, Passage, and Metropolis. In each cinema, we welcome you together with director Agustina Macri and actress Simone Mercado. Afterwards, we all come together to celebrate and toast where the festival was born: at the Metropolis Cinema on all levels. Dress code is our festival theme Remember & Resist! Come all and start the festival week with us. MISS CARBÓN | QUEEN OF COAL 13.10.26
Agustina Macri, Argentina/Spain 2025, 94’, Spanish original version with German and English subtitles. Miss Carbón is based on the true story of Carla “Carlita” Rodríguez, the first coal miner in the Argentine province of Santa Cruz. An old superstition states that women pose a risk of collapse in the mine, which is why mining work was reserved for men. However, Carlita (played by Lux Pascal) manages to prove herself in the misogynistic mining environment. Simultaneously, she begins her personal journey of gender transition, finding new friends and a chosen family. The film shows Carlita's resilience, her passion for mining, and how she manages to break the system from within. Present:
Agustina Macri (director) & Simone Mercado (actor)
